The history of Make-up

The first findings of use of make-up dates back to around 3000 BC from Ancient Egyptian times. They would use soot and natural ingredients to paint their faces and they had specialized tools to apply their make-up (a bit like us today)

In Ancient Rome woman of all statues would wear make-up and they were not viewed a pretty if they didn't wear make-up. Cosmetic use in Rome covered all areas of the body, including perfumes. Cheap cosmetics started to appear and these would be used by prostitutes would wore excessive amounts.

By the 19th century make-up began to take a turn, it was being used for fashion and acting. French Manufactures started to produces the first industrial made lipsticks, actors would require make-up that would be appropriate for black and white films. The sales of cosmetics began to rise in the 1900s.

The hippie movement began in the 1970s. Majority of the female hippies preferred feministic natural look of their faces during the day, they would wear very natural looking make-up. However, Bright red lips, long red nails, eyelid makeup, and pencil thin eye makeup were all based on the fashion of Italy and France. During those years, magazine Vogue was the centre of European fashion.
